Captain Nelson proved to be experienced proven guide. Fishing was incredible and Captain Nelson was fantastic at explaining what we were doing and how to do it. I highly recommend booking a trip with him and I absolutely will book several more trips myself.

I had a blast with Captain Eric!
Let me start by saying that many factors outside Eric's control were against us. It was early February and the weather/water was much warmer than normal. Tides and wind and water levels were all contrary to great fishing conditions. But, I was here on vacation and wanted to go fishing.
Captain Eric really knows the back bays of Panama City, and we tried several places around the East Bay looking for red fish--that was our target species. We saw very little evident of reds and not many fish at all, so things didn't look that great. However, Eric took me to one place with little to no activity. Then we went to another spot with little to no activity. Then he took me to an alternate location with a little spotted trout activity, which tailed off.
Then we went to another area and I hooked a really nice spotted trout! However, still not much activity. We moved down to another area and I hooked a small red fish and a couple more trout. Moving up along the shore a little more, Eric kept chasing the areas that might hold fish. While we are in some real shallows, Eric was poling the boat slowly along shore and a really nice red fish slammed my lure! It wasn't huge, but it was a lot of fun bringing it to the boat!
We kept looking for places to find fish, and we finally got to a small "hole" and we started blind fishing. At that point, nearly every cast had a strike or a fish. There were even several casts in which I missed two fish, only to catch a third! We stayed there for a while until my time was up.
I'm not a snobby fisherman. I just like being on the water when I can. Fishing is more about telling fish stories and the hunt. This trip showed me that even guys who really know the water can't always find fish. But that's just how fishing goes! If you go on a charter and you "expect" to be hauling trophy fish after trophy fish, maybe you need a perspective adjustment.

Captain Eric is great to fish with. This was my fourth time fishing with him, and each time was a different fishing experience. He is very friendly and patient. He explains exactly what you need to do to catch fish. He is also into conservation and interesting to talk to about what’s happening in the gulf. Every time I’m in the area I give him a call. What a great trip! First fish we caught was 30" redfish. Countless trout. Eric is a great fisherman and captain. He knows his stuff, very knowledgeable about inshore fishing. Definitely recommend Hurricane Charters to anyone who is interested in inshore fishing and good times. I know I'll be back!

About Black Drum Fishing Fishing
Black Drum are the brutes of the bay—large, bottom-dwelling fish known for their drum-like thumping sound and heavyweight fights. These fish can grow to impressive sizes, with some tipping the scales at over 30 pounds, and they’re often found around bridges, jetties, oyster beds, and deep bay channels. On a charter, we’ll anchor up or drift near prime structure, dropping fresh bait like shrimp or crab right to the bottom where the Drum love to feed. Fall through early spring is prime time for targeting the bigger “bull” Black Drum, though smaller, slot-size fish can be caught year-round. These trips are great for anglers looking for a slower-paced, powerful fight without having to head offshore. It’s a tug-of-war that rewards patience and persistence—and landing a massive Black Drum makes for one serious story and a great photo op.
